What we see, we manifest and we become - How our Indian Television structuring the society
For entertainment, we are searching several alternatives. Interestingly, nowadays we are available with numerous sources. Yet as evils attracts more similarly are our choices. If we are served with two choices, irrespective of benefits, we always choose that is enough fascinating and leaving behind the most healthier one. Exactly is with our choices of Indian television serials, that are watched by majority of the Indian women. Very known fact is that what we see, we become because the visuals drives our thoughts and so the personality. Very disappointing, our Indian serials are pervaded with ample amount of negativity and minimum of delivering some valuable lessons. Family structures are deteriorating to the most by providing negative thoughts to the brains of the Indian women.
History of Indian serials :-
Dada Saheb Phalke, has initiated the Indian cinema in the country to meet the objective of entertainment and spreading great lessons such as harmony among different religions, rise in patriotism and nationalism, etc. movies like Raja Harishchandra(1913), Shri Krishna Janam(1918) are the illustrations that played an important role in building the character of our nation. No doubt, to major extent, our entertainment industry has played a critical role to highlight issues that needs to be addressed. Then in the mid of 70s, Indian serials have been budding out to meet the space that Indian cinemas have missed. Hum Log, the first Hindi soap opera on Indian television, was inspired by the Mexican television series Ven Conmigo (1975). Then, wave of TV shows and dramas continued painted with entertainment and moral values. Till 1990s, people have only 1 choice of Doordarshan TV channel to rely on. Government censors are also strict and under watch what all scripts are being shown to the public.
The central government, under the leadership of the Congress, launched a series of economic and social reforms in 1991 under the then-Prime Minister P. V. Narasimha Rao. Under the new policies, the government allowed private and foreign broadcasters to engage in limited operations in India. When only DD channel was working, only 6 satellites were in operational whereas with the onset of private channels, more than 300 satellites were in usage. Zee and Star private channels are in direct and great competition, to gain the highest position, no pages were kept unturned. In early 2000s, Star, has opened all the doors to compete with the same cut throat competition. Star introduced a girl named Ms. Ekta Kapoor, and she has just done the miracles with Indian serials, hence volcano of TRP erupts and she became the queen of Indian drama. Now, what damage she, alone has done to the Indian serials is beyond explanation.
Representation of females :-
When we know the significance of participation of all genders in the economic development. Women empowerment is the ladder that enables in reaching the heights of prosperity for any nation. With the same goal, entry of females to the Indian cinema and serials have been done. Without a single doubt, it adds to the employment of female leads. But what they are playing and showing to the majority of public is worthless. Indian dramas' are primarily working on the beauty standards of female, then her only dream is to get a prince charm in her life, daughter in law & mother in law exaggerated troubles, extra marital affairs, normalizing cheating on partners, self care and self love turning out selfishness, live in culture, generalizing the sex and sexual remarks, playing with the emotions and stretching emotion of love to extreme extend. Certainly they are disturbing the culture of our nation. Impacting the peace and harmony among the family structures. While beyond that what society are we heading to? If we remember this life (mrityu log) is Karama Bhumi, yes important is family life, relations and offcourse emotions. But not only goals for female to accomplish. Women is equally eligible for achieving goals, be an entrepreneurs, running country (leader) and list goes on. Why to confine them only to adore herself with beauty, full of emotions, drama etc. Emotional Intelligence, Leadership skills, breaking the stereotype norms, gaining confidence etc. are the characteristics that needs more limelight. Indians dramas has caged the Indian women with maximum of things that needs very less attention.
Who is responsible ?
WeCustomer delight is always a preference. Hence, industry will sell that is in demand by the audience. Public likes to watch such dramas and if some intellectuals attempt to direct some valuable and worth watching dramas, audiences rejects it with low TRP means low profit. Left with no option and have to direct such dramas that are literally rottening the generations. Irony is that good movies and serials are not getting the positive response as per anticipation. It's a genuine question to ask that when will population realise how badly negative thoughts and visuals of TV shows impacting the generation. As entertainment industries have a huge impact in the making of nation.
Way Ahead :-
The clock has been knocked and now some serious steps are utmost important to consider this very serious issue. Our entire youth is succumbed to many social unnecessary thoughts that do not require any attention. Hollywood movies and dramas can be the motivation to reconsider our entertainment industries. Because what we watch, we visualise and we exactly becomes.
