Why Voter Turn Out is lower in current elections

We can all agree on the importance of voting.

The six districts of Eastern Nagaland makes up more than 30% of the state’s population and account for 20 of the 60 seats in the Nagaland Legislative Assembly. The call to “abstain” from elections is in line with a resolution taken in February by the ENPO and tribal organisations in these districts “not to participate in any central and state election if the offer for creation of Frontier Nagaland Territory is not settled by the Government of India through the Ministry of Home Affairs” 0%voting is observed in central elections of 2024. This is biggest odd against the democracy. 

Phase 3 of the Lok Sabha election 2023, which covered 11 states and 93 constituencies, recorded a 2.9% point dip in voter turnout compared to 2019, Election Commission data revealed.The highest voter turnout in the third phase was recorded in Assam at 81.61%, and the lowest was in Uttar Pradesh at 57.34%.

What are the significance of Voting? 

Votings are the important rituals for the commencement of festival democracy. The democracy ladder 🪜 is completed by using voters' voting as a rings and what are the significance further can be cited as :- 

It's our right - As breathing is required to survive similarly voting is important for democratic governance. We are fortunate to have the constitution right of vote. We don't give much attention but it's our fruitful right and must act accordingly.

Agent of reforms - every single vote has the capability of big transformations. This is the genuine fact that there can never be civil war or coup like situation in the nation where democracy and votings concrete the governance. As public wrath easily converges of diverges by voting in support of against the particular party. An inefficient ruling party can be easily replaced by voting and if not the entire responsibility is of the public of democratic nation.

Every vote counts :- the responsibility lies on everyone. Importance of every vote is cited as if any revolution is being going against or in support of any specific party. Every single vote counts as it decides the future of the nation and the political parties. 

Probable Reasons for voting turnout :- 

1. Political parties Manifesto - when development, climate change, sustainable goals, employment opportunities, economic prosperity, education and research such empowering prospects are missing from the manifestos and major emphasis is provided on the religion, freebies, reservations, caste, gender biasness vote bank issues etc disappoints the public and discourages to vote. 

3. Political Apathy/Lack of awareness - New generation has no interest in nation and national duties, they are much busier in creating their pseudo persona at social media. For new generation, voting is much lethargic and least lucrative task to complete. Because of unaware about the importance of every vote, public cite reasons of excessive summer or heat that forces them to sit at home instead of casting vote. 

2. Election Fatigue - Public of the nation is much fatigued by consecutive numerous election sometimes it's Municipal, state election, panchayat or the central elections. This is affecting the people interest and creating unnecessary nuisances in their daily routines.

4. Working population far from their native states - Those people who want to actually vote for the nation progress they are burdened with the work pressure, job location, financial liabilities that couldn't afford to be at native place for casting vote on that specific day.

5. No Political party competition - Recently, our Home minister has cited the reason for low vote turn out is lack of competition against the ruling party, as no strong opposition leader is the face that thrills public to vote. 

6. Electoral Votes Revision - after 12 years, electoral votes has been revised, so that this be one of the cause for low voting.
