How has satellite television brought about cultural change in Indian mindsets?

TV, media, is just for entertainment,
Yet it's side effects are more like brand new car has deep dent,,
Cultural transformation and reformation simultaneously happening,
Attention is required for much uniform balancing,,

In 1965, Bharat has welcomed the TV in our country. The audiences were exposed to never-seen-before images on television
Those were the times, in 1970-80s when entire village people gathered at one place to watch Ramayan, Mahabharat, cinema etc,. The host of the TV was considered as the richest and respected person. This raises the harmony and affection among the soceity. That time show case of any specific episode of serials has to be much concerned about the content that people will acknowledge. Enchanting and values, cinematography and subject was the priority.
It has played an important role in uniting the families, neighbours, friends and relatives. Cricket match fever is the perfect example of revealing the patriotism and unification among the Indians especially against Pakistan.

Though the trend was criticized as an invasion on the Indian cultural identity, yet it managed to create its own cultural space as well as intertwine in the national cultural landscape. The journey was arduous but steady.

How important is the TVs effect on our culture?
TV Influences an individual to motivate and get acquainted with our rich cultural heritage. Knowledge about the country's prosperous and diverse traditions in highly lucrative manner reaches to our new generations. TVs have inked positive impact on societal behaviors, cross cultural information is being getting spread over the country and world and emphasis more discussions, debates start and virtuous ideas generation happens that is certainly fruitful for the nation building and also geopolitics understanding among the population of country plays very critical role. Characters on television can become role models, influencing our fashion choices, language, and even our aspirations. Shows can also reflect and reinforce cultural norms or challenge them. Satellite television provides a wide range of channels and services. It is usually the only television available in many remote geographic areas without terrestrial television or cable television service. The Government of India (GoI) permitted the reception and distribution of satellite television signals in November 2000. The first DTH service in the country was launched by Dish TV on 2 October 2003. DD Free Dish, the first free DTH service in India, was launched by public broadcaster Prasar Bharati in December 2004.

Social Culture implications on the soceity - impact of varities of cinema, serials, etc has adversely affected our cultural as population wants to imitate that is being shown in the TV. Superheroes movie fascinates the youth, similarly gangsters movie, drug addiction based films that elevates the bad angry man character attracts youth to be like him, rash driving skills, fake relationships, love affairs and then suicide attempts in much dramatic manner earns limelight and that causes unnecessary nuisance among the adult and youth population.

Women's role transformation and impact on society
Women played important role in media as journalists, reporters etc. With the advent of serials and TV shows, the entire country witnessed the introduction of western culture and this affected the lifestyle, dressing etc of the Indian male dominated society. Similar to the globalization version of the country, Liberalisation phase of television in India showed some prime time serials, dramas and films based on stereotyped women especially like homemakers and mere objects of male desire.

This also had a great impact on the society. During 2000’s there was a drastic change in portrayal of women characters they were showcased in a better light rather than stereotype characters. Especially with the advent of western serials and mostly in western countries women were and are portrayed liberated women who were equal lent to men in walks of life

Some measures need to be taken to avoid cultural invasion :-

1. Structuring the strict and standard censorship that resists the unnecessary and useless subject shows or films. Promoting much intellectual and spiritual content that helps in building the youth of nation and sustaining the better citizens of the country.

2. Channels like Discovery channel, Animal Planet, National Geography, Doordarshan telecast educational programs likewise government coaching for competitive exams, skills Enhancement and children’s and youths should be encouraged to watch these channels by parents, relatives or soceity as a whole.

3. Ban all those channel that promote sleazy programmes that degrade and portray women in bad light. Media should convey the message about what is right and what is bad. Complete censorship should be on such content specially for teenagers. More clarity on sex education through programs can be focused along with spiritual consciousness on such in-depth subjects.
